Dogs don't wear condoms

MUMBAI (AFP) - - US actress Pamela Anderson has appealed to the authorities in India's financial capital Mumbai not to put down nuisance stray dogs, instead calling for them to be sterilised.

"It is well established that killing stray dogs is not a permanent solution to controlling their populations," the former "Baywatch" star said in a letter to the municipal commission of Greater Mumbai.

"Dogs cannot use condoms, but with the municipality's help, they can be 'fixed' -- painlessly, quickly and permanently," she added in the letter made public by activist group the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA).

There are thought to be some 70,000 stray dogs in India's financial and entertainment capital and there are widespread concerns about their role in spreading disease, including deadly rabies.
Anderson's letter, which cited World Health Organisation and Animal Health Board of India support for mass sterilisation, comes after a legal ruling here to destroy nuisance dogs.
Expressing her concern at the court decision, the 41-year-old star called instead for civic authorities to promote a sterilisation programme for stray dogs as well as those adopted and bought from animal shelters and pet shops.

Anderson's stance was supported by the Mumbai-based charity Welfare of Stray Dogs, which has been carrying out mass sterilisation of stray dogs since 1989.

Its chief executive, Abodh Aras, told AFP: "It's not only Pamela Anderson but a lot of children have also been writing to the commission saying that one should have the policy of sterilisation rather than killing stray dogs.

"Killing has proved to be ineffective in terms of bringing down the stray dog population and human rabies death. It's not just from the dog point of view but also from the human point of view."

Mass killing of stray dogs was implemented by India's British colonial rulers in the 19th century.
But by the early 1990s the policy was stopped as it was found to be ineffective in controlling the dog population and reducing human rabies deaths.

An attempt was made to revive the practice in 1998 but was rejected while the latest bid is currently subject to an Indian Supreme Court ruling due in the coming weeks.

India has so many dogs roaming its streets because of its high numbers of slum and street dwellers, who often keep the animals as pets, plus a large amount of garbage, which provides readily accessible food for scavenging mutts.

cos everytime i wanna blog, i'm just too lazy to start typing anything so i just open blogger and stare at it for a long time then eventually close the whole thing...

so since its 2009 already, i came up with several new-year resoultions:

dance-wise-

1) improve on basics in locking

2) Start joining more competitions

3) start training popping

4) Learn basic hip-hop

5) lose weight and return to breaking

6) train hard in locking and hopefully go Max Party next yr on my own

7) Form a crew

Study-wise-

1) Attend more lectures

2) Attend more tutorials

3) Attempt to do all tutorials

4) get at least 1 A for end-of-year exams

5) All pass for end-of-year and next semester as well

Personally-wise (really dun noe how to discribe this category)

1) Lose weight (seriously, i know tat i've been making this promise to myself for like 5 yrs already but i do nothing every year... pls let this be the last time i have to promise myself to do this)

2) make more friends

3) socialize more (refer to previous point)

4) save more money... dun everything also buy

5) improve in photography

6) end my 18 yrs of singlehood and loneliness... lolx...

Things have been very stupid lately...

all the tests and projects are coming up and i don't bother to really put in effort...
slacking all day long...
i know tat i made a resoultion to attend all lectures and lessons and to do all tutorials but i haven't done any of this...
every chance i have, i'll pon the lectures and go home to sleep...
never bother to attempt to do homework, at most stats go school and copy...

never even bother to revise for ica...
only read the notes briefly just before the exam....
like yesterday the test, i never give fuck about the test...
only started starting 2hrs before the exam...
slept 1hr out of the 2 hrs...
but who cares?

this is my way of life...

Adoption

These are two puppies saved from a construction site. They are approximately 3 months old, both vaccinated, healthy and living happily. The one on the right is Shepherd (male) and the black one on the left is Lady (female).
Shep (short for Shepherd as he looks like a German Shepherd) is a veryfriendly and inquisitive little fella. He is so likeable, you just fallin love with him immediately. Always wanting to be the center ofattention, he'll be the first to investigate food, people, dogs, cats(which explains why he was the first and easiest to catch). The only boyin the litter, the smallest yet he is our "Braveheart" - size of a pup,heart of a lion. Many times, his bigger sized sisters will hide behindhim as if seeking protection and yes, Shep is always there for them. Heloves cuddles and pets and if allowed, will put his muzzle on your lapwhen he takes a nap. His huge pointed ears and sharp features make himuniquely handsome.

Lady as aptly named as she is behaves like one. More cautious than herbrother, though bigger in size, she has a lustrous coat of black andrich brown. She looks like a mini rottie or a fat dobbie.We anticipate her to be a good watch dog as she is always watching andif not sure, will let out a low growl. Lady is not as hyper as herbrother but certainly looks the faster to be trained as can keep stillfor longer periods. The seemingly smarter of the two, she lets her brother "check it out" before she ventures into anything."

so far school has been highly boring...

"I just want my puppy home," Sgt. Gwen Beberg of Minneapolis wrote to her mother in an e-mail Sunday from Iraq, soon after she was separated from the dog following a transfer. "I miss my dog horribly." Beberg, 28, is scheduled to return to the U.S. next month.
Ratchet's defenders are ratcheting up their efforts to save him. On Monday, the program coordinator for Operation Baghdad Pups, which is run by Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals International, left for a trip to the Middle East to try to get the puppy to the U.S.
And last week, Beberg's congressman, Democrat Keith Ellison, wrote to the Army urging it to review the case.

Beberg and another soldier rescued the puppy from a burning pile of trash back in May. Defense Department rules prohibit soldiers in the U.S. Central Command, which includes Iraq, from adopting pets, but exceptions have been made. Operation Baghdad Pups says it has gotten 50 dogs and six cats transferred to the U.S. in the last eight months.
"I'm coping reasonably well because I refuse to believe that Ratchet has been hurt," Beberg wrote in the e-mail to her mother, Patricia Beberg. "If I find out that he was killed though _ well, we just won't entertain that possibility."

The mother said her daughter sent another e-mail saying that she confirmed that the dog was still alive and doing OK.

Operation Baghdad Pups' program coordinator, Terry Crisp, is scheduled to arrive in Baghdad on Wednesday. Crisp said the adopted dogs left behind face death on Iraqi streets.
She said Iraqis view dogs and cats as nuisances and carriers of disease, and U.S. soldiers have rescued many of them from abuse.
